"I've been testing out Tinké by using a slow breathing rate at 4-7 breaths per minute, but I'm getting 12-15 breaths per minute from the app! Is there a problem?!"
Tinké measures your breaths per minute by measuring the changes of blood volume in your blood vessels. You should breathe at your normal pace and avoid forcefully holding your breath as that does not register an immediate change in your blood volume. If you are relaxed, holding your breath can relax you even further. This can lower your heart rate and take advantage of certain physiological effects, which can further decrease it. On the contrary, you may feel light-headed when you hold your breath and push yourself forcefully, which may cause irregular heart rhythms.
Our Vita Index analyzes your heart rate, respiratory rate and SpO2 in 30 seconds, together with your age and gender to calculate your cardio-fitness levels. We would suggest to users to breathe normally while taking Vita Index measurement to ensure accuracy of the Vita Index Score.
If you are interested to practice how to gradually slow down your breathing, we would recommend taking Zen Index measurement over a 60 seconds exercise on a daily basis. With the help of the breathing guide located in the app, you will be guided to a slow but controlled breathing that is comfortable for you. At the end of the 1 minute breathing exercise, a Zen Index Score is produced to determine your current stress level.
